It's about time for an update...

OK, so this blogging thing apparently isn't going to happen every day. :) So, here comes the next discombobulated post. Broccolli started poking up last Thursday. The Squash and beets have poked up some time over the weekend. The Carrots and Parsley finally look like they are going to show their leaves soon now. Something is getting into the corn and breaking the plant off right at the roots. This same thing happened a few years ago when Maggie and I tried planting corn. We put up a scare flamingo and that seemed to work. we saved one plant, but of course we got no corn from it. Hopefully I can do better this time, but I'm still not sure about transplanting out of this big pot. Some of the lettuce is outgrowing the little peat pot so I took 4 of them, and 4 of the broccolli and put them in the ground. This spot doesn't get too much sun so I'm going to put the other 4 of each in another bed (that I haven't built yet). The tomatos seem to be doing good. The pulls have a couple of flowers. The heirlooms I got from Jenn are growing slowly but steadily. I don't think the Cherry tomato plant is going to make it, so my friend Psera is going to give me some Grape Tomato plants that are a foot tall. hopefully I'll get those and put them in the ground tonight. The Cucumber has about quadrupled in size. The Eggplants have finally sprouted some green leaves and I cut off the yellow ones this morning. The Fresia is about done with it's blooms as most of them fell off in last night's rainstorm.

How Exciting! The Lettuce is starting to poke it's little leaves out of the ground.
The bottom leaves of the cherry tomato plant are yellow, but the top leaves are green, so I'm hoping they'll turn out good later. The Eggplants are also yellow, so I'm moving them to more sun. I picked up some well developed tomato pulls (50 cents apiece) at the Southland drive farmer's market today. They are in the ground now and I hope they do well.

Hi, I'm doing a little garden patch for veggies and flowers and such. Thought I'd learn more if I kept track of when I'm planting stuff. Maybe it will help someone else along. I know It'll help me! Please forgive me in advance if I use the wrong terms, names, whatever. I'm starting from scratch here... Any advice/knowlege transfer is greatly appreciated. In the picture you can see the entirety of my garden. It gets really good morning sun, but you can't tell now because it's raining ;) SO, here's all the stuff to get us up to date. On May 4 I put a squash plant, 4 tomato plants, and 2 eggplants in the ground. I also threw 2 really old packets of carrot seeds in a planter full of dirt. The old corn seeds I threw in a planter a few weeks prior have begun to sprout. I'm thinking I should have used the peat pots for the corn, I'm not relishing seperating each sprout and getting them to survive in the ground. Today I planted 10 little peat pots each of Sweet Basil, Butternut Squash, Curly Lettuce, Beats, and Broccoli. I also threw some Parsley seeds in a pot. These are the 3 for $1 seed packets I've been picking up with Maggie while shopping. It'll be interesting to see how long it'll be before they are big enough to put in the ground. I've saved half the seeds to put in more pots later, or maybe to keep for next year.
